Global Gaming Factory Acquires The Pirate Bay
In what you can certainly call a surprise move, The Pirate Bay has been sold. Global Gaming Factory has announced that is has purchased the torrent search engine for 60 million Swedish Krona (7.8 million USD). They plan to build a business model around The Pirate Bay where content providers and copyright owners get compensatation.

In June of 1983, The Alarm released their third single, "The Stand". It was backed by "Third Light". The A side appeared on their debut self-titled five song EP. A different version of the song appeared on their debut full-length album, Declaration. The B side also appeared on Declaration. The single reached the #86 spot on the U.K. singles chart. They had begun life as a punk band called The Toilets. Later, they were a mod-influenced band called Seventeen which is when they released their first record. As The Alarm, the Rhyl, Wales post-punk/new wave band disbanded in 1991, only to re-form recently.

On this date in 1982, Midge Ure released his debut solo single, "No Regrets". It was backed by "Mood Music". This was a side project for the lead singer of Ultravox (and former member of The Rich Kids and Visage). This was his only solo recording until 1985 when he released an album called The Gift. Neither of these single sides were included, though "Mood Music" was added as a bonus when re-released on CD. The single reached the #9 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The Lanarkshire, Scotland punk/post punk singer continued his solo career after Ultravox disbanded in 1987.

On this date in 1981, Honey Bane released her fifth 7-inch solo record, "Jimmy...(Listen To Me)". It was backed by another version of the A side and "Negative Exposure". The London punk singer was the former front woman (actually, teenage girl) for Fatal Microbes and also fronted Donna & The Kebabs before going solo. There was no album released of her as a solo artist while she was still performing but the third track had also appeared on her Turn Me ON Turn Me OFF EP. She left the music industry in 1983 but has since resurfaced to perform occasionally.

The single reached the #7 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The band was formed as a side project by Talking Heads' members Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz. On this date in 1979, The Records released their debut album, Shades In Bed. It included their first single, "Starry Eyes" (#56 U.S.) and their third single, "Teenarama" but excluded their second single, "Rock And Roll Love Letter", because the band felt the single was a flop. In the U.S., the debut album was simply called "The Records" where the track order was changed and "Starry Eyes" was a re-recorded version of the single, not the original cut. The album reached the #41 spot on the U.S. albums chart. The London power pop band broke up in 1982. Singer John Wicks tried to recapture the magic under the name John Wicks and The Records and they have released a few albums.

On this date in 1979, The Jolt released their fourth and final 7-inch record. It was a four track EP. The songs included were "Maybe Tonight", "I'm In Tears", "See Saw" and "Stop, Look". The band was one of the bands at the forefront of the mod movement, like their label mates The Jam. The Glasgow, Scotland band broke up in 1979 after one album.

The B side did not appear on an album until 1980's semi-compilation, Grin & Bear It. The single reached the #7 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The London punk/post punk band changed its name to Ruts DC after the heroin overdose death of their singer, Malcolm Owen (July 14, 1980) but had limited success.

On this date in 1979, Menace released their fifth and final single, "Last Year's Youth". The B side was "Carry No Banners". The band went through several labels and did not record an album. They frequently opened for Sham 69. The London punk band disbanded in 1979 (in fact, prior to the release of this single) with five singles but no albums to their credit. The core of the band became Aces which was short-lived. Menace re-formed in 1997.

On this date in 1982, Leisure Process released their second single, "A Way You'll Never Be". It was backed by "Rachel Dreams". Neither song appeared on an album. In fact, they never released an album during their short-lived career. The Dover, England new wave duo was made up of Ross Middleton (ex-Positive Noise) and saxophonist Gary Barnacle whose saxophone work can also be heard on tracks by PIL, Visage, The Clash, The Ruts and Pet Shop Boys, among others. They released four singles but disbanded in 1983 without an album.
