The Specials

On this date in 1979, The Specials released their self-titled debut album. It contained the singles, "A Message To You Rudy" (#10 U.K.) and "Too Much Too Young" (#1 U.K.). The album reached the #4 spot on the U.K. albums chart and the #84 spot on the U.S. albums chart. The Coventry, England ska band listed their name as Special A.K.A. for some records, a practice that they sometimes employed even before the departure of Terry Hall, Lynval Golding and Neville Staples (to form Fun Boy Three in 1981). They broke up in 1984 but re-formed to tour this year.
