Paul Kelly and The Dots - Billy Baxter

On this date in 1980, Paul Kelly and The Dots released their third single, "Billy Baxter". It was backed by "Hard Knocks". Both tracks appeared on their debut album, Talk. The single reached the #38 spot in their native Australia but failed to chart elsewhere. The Adelaide, Australian power pop band released two albums before disbanding. Paul Kelly performed as Paul Kelly and The Coloured Girls and Paul Kelly and The Messengers as well as, simply, Paul Kelly, later on. He is still active.

In case anyone is wondering - Billy Baxter was a DJ on the indie station 3RRR here in Melbourne. He played an eclectic mix of music spanning many decades, including genres such as easy listening, long before it became fashionable. Great guy too.
