On this date in 1981, Debbie Harry released her first solo album, KooKoo. It contained the singles, "Backfired" (#43 U.S., #32 U.K.) and "The Jam Was Moving" (#82 U.S.). The album, itself, reached the #6 spot on the U.K. albums chart and the #28 spot of the U.S. album chart. Most of the songs were co-written by fellow Blondie member Chris Stein. Blondie was not over. Blondie, as a group, would still have another year together before going on hiatus.

On this date in 1981, Delta 5 released their first and only album, See The Whirl. It included the singles, "Anticipation" and "Shadow". The band originally started out as a three piece, all girl band, but they went through numerous lineup changes that were not limited to the female gender. Due to the changes in lineup and the weak album sales, the band called it quits by the time 1981 ended with five singles and one album to their credit. The lineup, at one time, included Jackie Callis, sister of Jo Callis (of The Rezillos and The Human League).

They were an all-female band that formed in England (though guitarist Kate Korus was born in the U.S. and singer Ramona Carlier was originally from Switzerland) and lasted through the release of six singles and one album.

The band used to be called The Leyton Buzzards but dropped the "Leyton" in order to give them a fresh start. They did not release an album but, in order to satisfy their contract, they released a compilation album called "Jellied Eels To Record Deals". This was released under the name The Buzzards but included all of their Leyton Buzzards releases.

On this date in 1982, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five released their fourth single (under various names), "The Message". It was backed by an instrumental version of the song. Both songs appeared on their debut album, The Message. This was one of the early hip-hop songs whose popularity crossed over into the new wave/post punk clubs. It was one of the first songs of this genre to take on social issues. Hip hop was considered solely party music at the time and this song probably changed hip hop forever. The song reached the #4 spot on the U.S. singles chart.

On this date in 1982, Wall Of Voodoo released "Mexican Radio" as a 12 inch. It was their third single. The B side was an instrumental (with some talking in the background) called "There's Nothing On This Side". The 12 inch also included a dub version of "Mexican Radio". They would also release a 7 inch version on the song around this time (with "Call Of The West" as the B side). Both "Mexican Radio" and "Call Of The West" appeared on their second album, Call Of The West, while both extras on the 12 inch were left off. The single was re-released in 1983 and reached the #58 spot on the U.S. singles chart.

This is the U.K. band fronted by a pre-Dexy's Midnight Runners' Kevin Rowland, not the Australian band from the late 80's. This was nothing like Dexy's Midnight Runners at all. This was pure punk. This was their only single and they broke up before releasing an album.
