On this date in 1980, Plasmatics released their debut album, New Hope For The Wretched. The album contained the singles, "Butcher Baby", "Monkey Suit" and "Dream Lover". They were infamous for their violent stage shows which included the use of chainsaws and sledgehammers and were fronted by the unique Wendy O. Williams. The New York punk band turned to metal in the early '80's and disbanded in 1987. Wendy took her own life on April 6, 1998.
