Yazoo - Upstairs At Eric's

On this date in 1982, Yazoo (or Yaz as they were known in the U.S.) released their debut album, Upstairs At Eric's. It produced the singles "Only You" (#2 U.K., #67 U.S.), "Don't Go" (#3 U.K.) and "Situation" (#73 U.S., not released in the U.K. and not on the U.K. version of the album). The album, itself, reached the #1 spot on the U.K. albums chart and the #92 spot on the U.S. albums chart. The Essex, England new wave band disbanded in 1983 after two albums. Vince Clarke, formerly of Depeche Mode, went on to form Erasure. Yazoo was known as Yaz in the U.S. because there was already a U.S. band named Yazoo. The band has recently reunited to tour.
