Wayne County and The Backstreet Boys

On this date in 1976, Wayne County (and The Backstreet Boys) released their first single, "Max's Kansas City". The B side was "Flip Your Wig". Neither track appeared on a regular album. The A side was actually a remake of their recording that appeared on the Max's Kansas City 1976 album that featured multiple artists from the underground New York scene. Wayne would soon form The Electric Chairs. When Wayne's notoriety became even bigger than the band, the New York City punk band changed their name to Wayne County and The Electric Chairs. The Georgia- born transsexual supposedly had an operation in 1980 that truly made him "Jayne" County (the name he would soon perform under) but he/she has claimed that the equipment was not altered.
