On this date in 1977, Tom Robinson Band released their debut single, "2-4-6-8 Motorway". It was backed by "I Shall Be Released". Neither track appeared on their debut album, Power In The Darkness, but both were eventually added as bonus tracks when the album was re-released on CD. The single reached the #5 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The London punk/power pop band disbanded after two albums. Tom Robinson founded Sector 27 after the break-up. The band has re-formed for some reunion shows. Drummer Dolphin Taylor later joined Stiff Little Fingers.

I think that there was a US release on vinyl where they did indeed include the single. On Harvest--a double gatefold? Either I got it somewheres in storage or I sold it... but I can't possibly tell you for sure at the minute.
Thanks Facesmall!
The U.S. version of the album offered a bonus disk in limited quantities which included both single sides as well as some other tracks.
