The The - Uncertain Smile

On this date in 1982, The The released their third single, "Uncertain Smile". It was backed by "Three Orange Kisses From Kazan". The A side appeared on their first released vinyl album (they had two unreleased albums and a limited edition cassette album prior to this), Soul Mining. The B side was a non-LP track. "Uncertain Smile" was a re-worked version of a previously released song, "Cold Spell Ahead". There were two fairly distinct versions of the song. The album version had Jools Holland playing piano. The single version had a sax and flute part. The single reached the #68 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The London post punk band which is primarily Matt Johnson and whomever he brings into the studio, is still active.
