Nick Lowe - Cruel To Be Kind

On this date in 1979, Nick Lowe released his twelfth single, "Cruel To Be Kind". It was backed by "Endless Grey Ribbon". The A side appeared on his second album, Labour Of Lust. The B side appeared on the U.K. version of the album but was excluded on the U.S. version. This was not unusual for Nick Lowe to release two different versions of an album. He released two different debut albums, one in the U.K. and one in the U.S. The song "Cruel To Be Kind" was actually released as a single in 1978 but made no noise. It was re-worked and re-released. This time, it reached the #12 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The power pop singer from Surrey, England, once teamed up with Dave Edmunds in Rockpile, is still performing.
