Chelsea - Freemans

On this date in 1981, Chelsea released their ninth single, "Freemans". The B sides were "I.D. Parade" and "How Do You Know". Only "How Do You Know" appeared on an album, Evacuate (their third studio album), and it was a different version. All three single tracks were added to that album when re-released on CD. The London punk band was one of the earliest punk bands on the scene but went through some dramatic personnel changes early on that set their recordings back. The original lineup featured Gene October as the lead singer and three band mates who would leave in a couple of weeks after forming to form another band. Those departing were Billy Idol, Tony James and John Towe. That band would be Generation X. Gene October was left to recruit a new band which he did. That new band included James Stevenson. Predictably, he would later leave to join Generation X too. Chelsea is still performing and Gene October is still there.
