Joy Division - Closer


On this date in 1980, Joy Division released their second and final album of new material, Closer. The album was released shortly after the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis. Despite having no singles, the album reached the #6 spot on the U.K. albums chart. The Manchester, England post-punk band ended abruptly when lead singer Ian Curtis hung himself on May 18, 1980. The remaining members of the band formed New Order.
