Joy Division - An Ideal For Living

On this date in 1978, Joy Division released their debut EP, An Ideal For Living. The four song record was initially released as a 7 inch record. A 12 inch version was released later in the year. The songs were "Warsaw", "No Love Lost", "Leaders Of Men" and "Failures". All four songs would be included on the 1988 compilation, Substance (not to be confused with New Order's album of the same name). The cover art for the EP was drawn by Joy Division's guitarist and keyboardist, Bernard Sumner. The Manchester, England post-punk band ended abruptly when lead singer Ian Curtis hung himself on May 18, 1980. The remaining members of the band formed New Order.
