Bow Wow Wow - I Want Candy

On this date in 1982, Bow Wow Wow released their tenth single, "I Want Candy". It was originally backed with nothing. It was an experiment as a single-sided single at a discount price. This did not prove popular and it was withdrawn in a week. The new release had a B side of "King Kong" and on other versions, "Cowboy". "King Kong" appeared on their first vinyl album , See Jungle! See Jungle! Go Join Your Gang, Yeah. City All Over! Go Ape Crazy. The A side first appeared on their EP, Last Of The Mohicans as did "Cowboy". They were then included on their second vinyl album, I Want Candy as was "King Kong"), which was really a compilation. The single reached the #9 spot on the U.K. singles chart and the #62 spot on the U.S. singles chart. The London new wave band formed when Leigh Gorman, Matthew Ashman and Dave Barbarossa were steered away from Adam and The Ants. Add Annabella Lwin and you have Bow Wow Wow. They were managed by ex-Sex Pistols' manager Malcolm McLaren. They disbanded in 1983.
