The Raincoats - Fairytale In The Supermarket

On this date in 1979, The Raincoats released their debut single, "Fairytale In The Supermarket". It was backed by "In Love" and "Adventures Close To Home". The two supporting tracks were on their self-titled debut album. The lead track was not on the album but it was added when the album was re-released on CD. The London post-punk band went through several early lineup changes including at the drums where they originally had Nick Turner (later of The Barracudas) and then Richard Dudanski (later of Public Image Ltd) before Palmolive (ex-Slits) became the drummer and made it an all-girl band. They disbanded in 1984 after four albums. They re-formed in 1993 and released some new material. They have performed together a few times since.
