Elvis Costello - New Amsterdam

|

On this date in 1980, Elvis Costello released his fourteenth single, "New Amsterdam". It was backed in the U.K. by "Dr. Luther's Assistant" and backed in the U.S. by "Wednesday Week". There was also a 4 song EP that added "Just A Memory" and "Ghost Train" to the U.K. version. The A side was the only song initially on an album. It appeared on his fourth album, Get Happy!! All the other songs except "Wednesday Week" were added as bonus tracks to Get Happy!! when it was re-released on CD. "Wednesday Week" was added as a bonus to his third album, Armed Forces. The single reached the #36 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The London punk/new wave singer is still active.
