Discharge - Why

On this date in 1981, Discharge released their fourth EP, Why. It was hard to categorize this as a true EP. It contained ten songs and was a 12-inch record. However, it played at 45 rpm speed and the ten songs clocked in at a whopping total of about 15 minutes. It reached the #1 spot on the U.K. indie singles chart. The Staffordshire, England punk/hardcore band did not release anything on vinyl until 1980 despite having formed in 1977 and having started recording demos in 1977. They disbanded in 1987 but have performed occasionally since.
