The Human League - The Dignity Of Labour

On this date in 1979, The Human League released their debut EP. It was a 12-inch record called The Dignity Of Labour. It contained four songs, each entitled "The Dignity Of Labour" but labeled individually as parts 1,2,3 and 4. This was much less a commercial effort than an artistic statement. All four songs were instrumentals and the band was a three piece unit at this time. The band was Ian Craig Marsh and Martyn Ware (both future Heaven 17) and Phil Oakey. None of the tracks appeared on an album but all four were added to their debut, Reproduction, when it was re-released on CD. The Sheffield, England new wave band lost Marsh and Ware but expanded to a six piece band before exploding with Dare! They continue on today but as a three piece band.
