Bill Nelson - Banal

On this date in 1981, Bill Nelson released his third 7-inch record, "Banal". It was backed by "Mr. Magnetism Himself". The A side appeared on his first full length album, Quit Dreaming And Get On The Beam. The B side was a non-LP track that was added to the album as a bonus when the album was re-released on CD. The 12 inch version included two additional tracks, "Hers Is A Lush Situation" and "Turn To Fiction", also non-LP tracks. The Wakefield, England new wave musician, formerly in Be Bop Deluxe, is still recording.

Bill Nelson RULES!

Still so far ahead of his time that "Banal" sounds just as fresh today as it did back in the day.

Visit his site and get on the beam!

Nelson is past it . Doodles on
his guitars , adds effects , records it all and releases album
after album that all sound the same and they are ridiculously
expensive . On the ropes .

remembered for Be Bop Deluxe ,

I am SO not feeling the Bill-love here.... although admittedly it'd be great if he got back to releasing thought-through songs rather than barely-thought ideas...

What a bunch of arseholes.....Bill Nelson is a phenominal musician. Obviously you all have some kind of Axe(victim)to grind...not sure what the deal is but you have every right to be wrong.
The man is a true artist in every sense of the word, the music business would be better off if there were more like him who were in it for art and not just having their ego's stroked or to simply make $$$

so Mr. Nelson is'nt in it for
the money . Get wise ! Know
quite a few who could tell
the REAL story which would
make good reading I can assure
you .

Bill Nelson, evidently, is a subject of great controversy.

The only song that I actually know by Bill Nelson is "Flaming Desire".

Found the whole B-B Dlx catalog here:

Now I'm sure that Nelson is a bit over-rated. Some very good stuff, but a fair amount of ho-hum, too.

If you can afford 17 pounds for
his FREQUENT album releases then
that's fine and dandy .
Catch him live at the convention
,one man and his guitar , backing
tapes and that will set you back
50 pounds , but remember it's all
in the very best taste .

Bill Nelson's Red Noise Sound On Sound. Listen to it. Then forgive him EVERYTHING else. That means EVERYTHING - Be Bop Deluxe, useless overdubbed tunes and jams released as box-set albums, "I soooo want to be David Bowie, but I'm not, boo hoo..."...EVERYTHING. This one album soars above most music any other act in the history of music has ever made in it's sorry arse life time.
