XTC - Ball And Chain

|

On this date in 1982, XTC released their fifteenth single, "Ball And Chain". It was backed by "Punch And Judy" and "Heaven Is Paved With Broken Glass". The 12" single contained "Punch And Judy" plus "Cockpit Dance Mixture" as the supporting tracks, the latter of which was a remixed version of an LP track from English Settlement called "Down In The Cockpit", though the song was only on the U.K. edition of the album. The single peaked at #58 on the U.K. singles chart. The A side also appeared on English Settlement, their fifth album, while the other supporting tracks were not included. The Swindon, England post punk/new wave band called it quits in 2006 when Colin Moulding expressed a desire to call it quits. Andy Partridge didn't feel that it would be XTC without the both of them.
