The Wipers - Is This Real?

|

On this date in 1980, The Wipers released their debut album, Is This Real? It contained their single, "Alien Boy". The Portand, Oregon band started out life as a punk band. There sound changed somewhat by the late '80's and were a major influence on the grunge sound that surfaced in the Northwest U.S. They disbanded in 2001.

WIPERS and Grunge? They were a psychedelic Punk band with a very unique sound and vision. Grunge came later, and for sure they did not jump on that bandwagon. Although they were an influence on some of those bands. Cobain was a big Wipers fan...

Well...in reading the post, I agree that it wasn't fair calling them grunge. I disagree with the psychedelic piece but I've changed the post comments to reflect a fairer assessment.
