Wah! Heat - Better Scream

On this date in 1980, Wah! Heat released their debut single, "Better Scream". It was backed by "Hey! Disco Joe". Neither track appeared on a regular album but both tracks appeared on their 1982 compilation, The Maverick Years 1980-81. The Liverpool post-punk band was fronted by Pete Wylie, who once was in a band called The Crucial Three with Ian McCulloch (later with Echo and The Bunnymen) and Julian Cope (later with The Teardrop Explodes). The band, at various points in their career, was also called Wah! Heat, Shambeko! Say Wah!, JF Wah!, The Mighty Wah! and Wah! The Mongrel. Pete Wylie is still performing, but Wah-less.

First Band I ever saw was Wah! in 1981. Washie was broke so Julian Cope played bass IIRC. Wylie himself was in a cast... (leg) Unfortunately I can't remember much else (it was at Heaven, I was working that summer at the Civil Service Stores on the Strand, and I was alone! And they were late! I walked home that night, arriving about 2.30am, upsetting my parents, who were a little worried).

I was so excited by their first LP (still one of my favourites), & I do remember having an argument with my dad about the first single...
