The Pretenders

On this date in 1980, The Pretenders released their self-titled debut album. It included the singles, "Brass In Pocket" (#1 U.K., #14 U.S.), "Stop Your Sobbing" (#34 U.K., #65 U.S.) and "Kid" (#33 U.K.). The album reached the #1 spot on the U.K. albums chart and the #9 spot on the U.S. albums chart. Led by Ohio-born lead singer Chrissie Hynde, the Hereford, England punk/new wave band survived the firing (and later death) of bassist Pete Farndon and the drug overdose death of guitarist James Honeyman Scott to continue on to the present.
