On this date in 1978, Ian Dury & The Blockheads released their fifth single, "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick". It was backed by "There Ain't Half Been Some Clever Bastards". Neither track appeared on an album, as was Ian Dury's usual custom with his singles. This single reached the #1 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The London punk/post-punk band disbanded in 1981. After a solo career, Dury worked again with The Blockheads before his death on March 27, 2000.
