On this date in 1979, The Damned released their third album, Machine Gun Etiquette. It yielded the singles, "Love Song" (#20 U.K.), "I Just Can't Be Happy Today" (#46 U.K.) and "Smash It Up (Part II)" (#35 U.K.). The album reached the #31 spot on the U.K. albums chart. It was their first album without founding guitarist Brian James. Algy Ward (ex-The Saints) was their new bassist and Captain Sensible moved from bass to guitar. The London punk band has disbanded and re-formed numerous times. They are together as of now.
