On this date in 1979, The Boomtown Rats released their seventh single, "Diamond Smiles". It was backed by "Late Last Night". The A side appeared on their third album, The Fine Art Of Surfacing. The B side was a non-LP track that was added as a bonus track when the album was re-released on CD. The single reached the #13 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The Dublin, Ireland punk/new wave band disbanded in 1986 after six albums.

Because of the obvious gargantuan success of " I Don't Like Mondays " follow up singles "Diamond Smiles" and "Someone's Looking At You" are always somewhat looked at as album tracks on a one hit album. The later is one of the strongest singles the Rats ever came up with!!!
