On this date in 1982, Midnight Oil released their eighth single, a 12-inch fronted by "The Power And The Passion". The B side was "Glitch, Baby Glitch". The A side was an extended version of the track that appeared on their fourth album, 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1. The B side was a non-LP track. The U.S. version had a third track, an instrumental called "Wedding Cake Island". The single reached the #8 spot on their native Australia's singles chart but did not chart elsewhere. The power pop band from Sydney, Australia gained chart success in their homeland long before making any noise in the U.K. and U.S. That would arrive in the mid-80's. The band broke up in 2002.

Greetings from Australia. You may be interested to know that the Oils' singer, Peter Garrett, was appointed as our Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts in November 2007. A long way from pub rock!
I knew that he was an environmentalist and a politician. I didn't know that he finally got appointed.
