We're slackers...

We don't update The P5 every day like we used to. So when we slack off, just use the search box up there on the right. Yeah, the red box, that's it. Search The P5 Archives. You'll be glad you did.

The Specials - Stereotype

|

On this date in 1980, The Specials released their fifth single, "Stereotype". It was backed by "International Jet Set". Both tracks appeared on their second album, More Specials. The single reached the #6 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The Coventry, England ska band listed their name as Special A.K.A. for some records, a practice that they sometimes employed even before the departure of Terry Hall, Lynval Golding and Neville Staples (to form Fun Boy Three in 1981).

MORE SPECIALS is an album of a rare vintage... it had so much going for it ... the extended album dub version of STEREOTYPE is a perfect example of this. Here's a band that could have continued on and put out at least another 2 top class albums, all very different from each other.... I interviewed Lynval Golding in Dublin when the Specials did their initial spurt of reformation gigs in 1993... nice bloke...
There's been so much talk about a regrouping of the clans and last year it seemed like it was going to happen in a limited capacity in 2008 with the Hall Of Fame award and whatnot... but a quick glance over a couple of webspaces, it seems that there's all sorts of managerial crap going on...
