On this date in 1981, Adam and The Ants released their tenth single, "Prince Charming". It was backed by "Christian D'or". The A side appeared on their third album, Prince Charming. The B side was a non-LP track. The single reached the #1 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The London punk/post-punk band broke up in 1982. Adam Ant went on to a successful solo career.

I have argued with people many times about the virtues of Adam And The Ants - My point always being that they had none... the answer is always ".. but listen to DIRK WEARS WHITE SOCKS..".... and I did ant that was pretty awful... it was a good move for the BowWowWow kids to jump ship when they did... or gewt stolen by McClaren or whatever urban mythology suggests..... the song KINGS OF THE WILD FRONTIER is great... but anything else I've ever heard by them or by Stuie boy on his own has been pretty poor..... Apart from that incident with the guns in the restaurant a couple of years back when he went a bit mad... - I enjoyed that one - Other than that... any old prick can put a piece of masking tape across their nose........ I don't think I'm being mean here... I doubt Adam Ant gives a shit what I think!!!
Your post sounds as if it was written by a 12-year-old.
Well Adam And The Ants tends to have that "IQ plummet" effect over most people, whether they admit it or not!!!!
Hey anonymous...sorry to disappoint you but we are adults. Best of luck finding a 12 year old to chat with on the internet. Good luck avoiding the FBI.
I like Puss 'n' Boots.
Recent electro duo Client do a great cover of Zerox Machine on their third album Heartland.

.. boz: I'm not sure what did you expect from the masked new romantics performers, you're like it or not .. IQ? .. sorry, I dont listen new romantics/new wave movement to give a psychoanalysis of it .. maybee you are milly vanilly fan?
Fair enough Anonymous. I never give a toss what anyone else thinks about the bands I like, that to me is one of the core values of punk. It is all subjective, there is no right or wrong with appreciation of sound. Many of the New Romantic pop bands produced truly great music to my ears and yet the historians are often too focused on the fact they had exciting dress sense and made music lots of girls liked to dance to. As if there is something wrong with that!
I neither advocate nor discredit any act that we post. It's supposed to be subjective. I shouldn't say never because I did serve to promote Drongos For Europe but hey...Dek Drongo reads this blog occasionally and I do really like their music. Anyway, in my opinion, an artist playing what they like to play is fine, regardless of what we think.
It's when an artist plays something just to appeal to a set of consumers without even liking the music themselves that irks me. That is in the simplest terms a "sell out".
That's a good attitude and partly why this site is so great I guess.
I suppose inevitably opinions are going to be expressed and there can sometimes be a fine line between expressing strong admiration for a band/album/song and allowing for the possibility someone else might not agree and vice versa.
I thought Boz's original comment was merely giving his view on why Adam Ant's music wasn't up to scratch by his standards and had no problem with that whatsoever. But then I perhaps overstated the 'subjective' thing in defence of Anonymous's liking for Mr Ant.
With regard to selling out, I suppose when the music business gets hold of any new music style it can have a diluting effect when bandwagon-jumpers get involved and start reaping benefits from others' good ideas.
.. hmm, at that time (mid 80's) I was 17 years old and to tell you the truth I did not know difference between "good" or "bad" music, and did not care much about that .. then adam looks and sounds to me as a very cool guy, not to mention he's been there at very important time for music of that era - punk (sex pistols, mclaren, etc) and for that I respect him, like many others who worked hard to make something in life ..
Adam Ant was one of the first new wave acts that I listened to back when I was a teenager (early 80s). I'm sure I was drawn to his unique looks and also because my real first name is Adam.
I've had to endure being called Adam Ant for about 20 something years now. Before that, growing up, it was Atom Ant the cartoon character, which is probably where Stuart Goddard got the name from.
Every once in awhile I listen to the album Kings of the Wild Frontier. The songs just get stuck in my head.
I saw him live back in the day at Malibu nightclub on Long Island. Club80 was probably there as well.
I saw the movie Jubilee starring Adam Ant (and Toyah and others) a few months ago for the first time and gee I found it quite harsh viewing in parts.
I remember Atom Ant – he was cool.
