On this date in 1981, The Pretenders released their second full length album, Pretenders II. It included the singles, "Talk of the Town" (#8 U.K.), "Message Of Love" (#11 U.K.), "Day After Day" (#45 U.K.), "Louie Louie" and "I Go To Sleep" (#7 U.K.). The album reached the #7 spot in the U.K. and the #10 spot in the U.S. This would be the last album with the original lineup. Pete Farndon was kicked out of the band and soon thereafter died of a drug overdose. James Honeyman Scott also died of a drug overdose. The Hereford, England punk/new wave band still records and performs.
