On this date in 1980, Black Flag released their second EP, Jealous Again. It was a five song, 12 inch record that had Ron Reyes (A.K.A. Chavo Pederast) as lead singer after Keith Morris left to form The Circle Jerks. The five songs were "Jealous Again", "Revenge", "White Minority", "No Values" and "You Bet We've Got Something Personal Against You!" None of them appeared on their debut album, Damaged. The Los Angeles hardcore punk band had seen lead vocalists come and go. They disbanded in 1986.

All the Black Flag vocalists had something to offer the band at a point in time... I'm not sure that Chavo or Dez would have suited the material from MY WAR on ...... although judging by the Circlejerks rockier albums, Keith Morris may have tackled some of it a little better than Rollins. Still, where the material was bad later in Black Flag's career, it was down to Greg Ginn's awful lyrics or generally uninspired music, not Rollins' spirited performances.
so the wonderfully-named Chavo Pederast decided he'd prefer the more pedestrian Ron Reyes, hunh? ;)
discovered this blog a few days ago - excellent writing, album selection, everything. many thx from NYC,

Ron Reyes wasn't born named Chavo Pederast. It was the name the band used for him in credits after they kicked him out. Something to do with his personal leanings - look up the word 'Pederast' on google --
Great Blog. Thanks for all the cool links.
Ummm... yeah, I'm glad others have caught that. I burst out laughing when I read "born Chavo Pederast". That's like writing, "featuring Jan Paul Beam (born Darby Crash)". The name was more Greg Ginn sense of humor (i.e. Dale Nixon was not a real person).
Thanks folks. Actually, I didn't even pick up on the "joke". I thought I had read that it was his given name.
I altered the post to reflect this correctly.
The joke's on me!
As for the variety of vocalists, I agree with boz to a certain extent. While Keith Morris probably could have handled the later stuff, I don't think Rollins was suited for the earliest stuff that Keith recorded with the band. It was much less "hardcore" than it was pure punk. Keith Morris pulled that off much better than I think Henry would have.
