The Boomtown Rats - I Don't Like Mondays

On this date in 1979, The Boomtown Rats released their sixth single, "I Don't Like Mondays". It was backed by "It's All The Rage". The A side appeared on their third album, The Fine Art Of Surfacing. The B side was a non-LP track. The single reached the #1 spot on the U.K. singles chart, a place it held for four weeks. It peaked at #73 in the U.S. The Dublin, Ireland punk/new wave band disbanded in 1986 after six albums.

Since this is an NYC-based blog: Anyone there remember the Palladium show on the Tonic for the Troops tour, wherein they came out for the encore and performed the freshly-written IDLM a cappella?

Not to mention to all-time-great putdown of a performing act.... Max Romeo was pretty damned awful, and the guy a few rows behind us went on a VERY audible five-minute rant about how badly he sucked, concluding with the ultimate: "You -- wasted -- my -- TIME!!!"

And all that for a $5 ticket. Good times. :D
