Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures

On this date in 1979, Joy Division released their first full length album, Unknown Pleasures. It did not yield any singles. The Manchester, England post-punk band ended abruptly when lead singer Ian Curtis hung himself on May 18, 1980. The album did not chart initially but rose to the #71 spot on the U.K. singles chart in August, 1980, shortly after Ian Curtis' death. The remaining members of the band formed New Order.
