On this date in 1982, The Jam released their eighteenth single, "Just Who Is The 5 O'Clock Hero?". It was backed by "The Great Depression". The 12 inch had an additional song, a cover of "War". The A side appeared on The Jam's sixth album, The Gift. Neither of the other two tracks appeared on a studio album. The single wasn't released in the U.K. It was a Dutch single that was so heavily imported that it rose to the #8 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The Woking, England punk/mod revivalist band disbanded in 1982 after six studio albums. Paul Weller went on to form The Style Council. Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler have toured together since but Paul Weller has no interest in a reunion.
