Squire - My Mind Goes Round In Circles

|

On this date in 1980, Squire released their fourth single, "My Mind Goes Round In Circles". It was backed by "Does Stephanie Know?". Neither track appeared on their only album, Get Smart. The Woking, England mod revivalists came from the same town as The Jam. They disbanded in 1985 with several singles but just one album to their credit.

The single featured Kirsty MacColl on perfect harmonies!

Squire actually released 5 albums, Hits From 3000 Years Ago from 1981 (originally released as Anthony Meynell - Hits From 3000 Years Ago), included songs from their original live mod set, Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed...The Official Squire Fan Club Album in 1982, a limited edition of outtakes and live recording, the sunshine pop album Get Smart in 1983,, September Gurls in 1984 featuring the cover of Big Stars classic, and The Singles Album in 1985 which compiled all the singles in one outing.

The tracks were re-released on two compilations in the 1990's as Big Smashes and Get Ready To Go.

Last year 2007, Hits From 3000 Years Ago, Get Smart, The Singles Album and Something Old... were re-released on Hi-Lo Records and on iTunes etc!!

The Squire tribute album The Young Idea featuring 1. the eddies 2. the shambles 3. yeh yeh 4. the little murders 5. the che men 6. mega super ultra 7. jeremy 8. the deceivers 9. the shingles 10. the spring collection 11. paul bevoir 12. the relatives 13. mod fun 14. smodati 15. trash 16. the vagabonds was also released in 2007!

Nice job, Darren! Obviously a big (and well informed) fan. I only consider Get Smart as an official release. September Gurls was really an EP. The Singles album was a compilation and the "Something Old..." was a fan club only release. Even "Hits From 3000 Years Ago" was a release of old live material but I guess I could have included that. I am intrigued by that live album (which I do not own). I will be looking for this soon.
Thanks!
