On this date in 1980, The Birthday Party released their first album as The Birthday Party. It was self-titled. Nick Cave and the boys had been known as The Boys Next Door on earlier releases. As a matter of fact, original releases of this album were credited to The Boys Next Door. The album contained the singles, "Mr. Clarinet" and "The Friend Catcher". The album was expanded when re-released and named Hee Haw which included the entire debut album plus tracks from the EP, Hee Haw (released under The Boys Next Door). The Melbourne, Australia post-punk band, as The Birthday Party, called it quits in 1983 and frontman Nick Cave formed The Bad Seeds.

We're slackers...
We don't update The P5 every day like we used to. So when we slack off, just use the search box up there on the right. Yeah, the red box, that's it. Search The P5 Archives. You'll be glad you did.
