On this date in 1979, Siouxsie and The Banshees released their second single, "The Staircase (Mystery)". It was backed by "20th Century Boy". Neither track appeared on an album though the A side was added to their debut album, The Scream, on a later CD re-release. The single reached the #24 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The London punk/post-punk/goth band disbanded in 1996.

About: The original Post Punk Progressive Pop Party (The P5) aired every Saturday night on 88.7FM WVHC (now WRHU) Radio Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Back in 1978, WVHC was among the first outlets (public or commercial) in the United States to promote what became the New Wave movement.
