On this date in 1980, The Ruts released their fifth single, "Staring At The Rude Boys". It was backed by "Love In Vain". Both tracks appeared on their second album, Grin & Bear It which was a compilation of single tracks and live performances that had not been captured on their debut, The Crack. The single reached the #22 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The London reggae-influenced punk band released two albums before lead singer, Malcolm Owen died of a heroin overdose. The renamed themselves Ruts D.C. and lasted until 1983.

About: The original Post Punk Progressive Pop Party (The P5) aired every Saturday night on 88.7FM WVHC (now WRHU) Radio Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Back in 1978, WVHC was among the first outlets (public or commercial) in the United States to promote what became the New Wave movement. This blog is a tribute to that show and all of the great music it exposed us to.
