On this date in 1981, Robyn Hitchcock released his debut solo single, "The Man Who Invented Himself". It was backed by "Dancing On God's Thumb". The A side appeared on his debut album, Black Snake Diamond Role. The B side was a non-LP track that was added as a bonus track when the album was re-released on CD. The London post punk/new wave singer was the former frontman for The Soft Boys. He would sooon form Robyn Hitchcock and The Egyptians.
