On this date in 1980, The Pretenders released their fourth single, "Talk Of The Town". It was backed by "Cuban Slide". The A side appeared on their second album, Pretenders II. The B side was a non-LP track (though it appeared on the North America-only EP, Extended Play, released in 1981, along with "Talk Of The Town"). The single reached the #8 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The London punk/new wave band, fronted by Ohio-raised Chrissie Hynde, is still in existence.

About: The original Post Punk Progressive Pop Party (The P5) aired every Saturday night on 88.7FM WVHC (now WRHU) Radio Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Back in 1978, WVHC was among the first outlets (public or commercial) in the United States to promote what became the New Wave movement. This blog is a tribute to that show and all of the great music it exposed us to.
