About: The original Post Punk Progressive Pop Party (The P5) aired every Saturday night on 88.7FM WVHC (now WRHU) Radio Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Back in 1978, WVHC was among the first outlets (public or commercial) in the United States to promote what became the New Wave movement. This blog is a tribute to that show and all of the great music it exposed us to.

Joy Division - Licht Und Blindheit

On this date in 1980, Joy Division released a two song EP as part of a French artistic venture combining art, text and music. The package was called Licht Und Blindheit. The songs on the EP were "Atmosphere" and "Dead Souls". Neither song would appear on either of their studio albums but would appear on their 1988 posthumous singles compilation entitled Substance. The English translation of the German title is "Light And Blindness". The release was limited to 1,578 copies.

The title isn't french but german. The translation is still correct.

And it wasn't a French venture but a Belgian one.

Thanks!
I actually knew that it was a German title but the way I expressed it (The English translation of the French title is "Light And Blindness") certainly doesn't read well. The "title" I was referring to the name of the project. I have re-written this so it actually makes sense (which I clearly failed to do the first time around!).
I re-researched the origin of the release and I still come up with this being a French release on Sordide Sentimental. Does anyone have something pointed towards this being a Belgian release because I definite want to correct it if so.

No, Sordide Sentimental is definitely a french label, from Rouen...

F (from France)

AFTER posting I guessed that you knew that the title wasn't french, but that you wanted to say, that the release was french.
As I wrote: AFTER I posted...

Hope you don't mind and thank you for your wonderful blog and taste...
