X Ray Spex - Oh Bondage Up Yours!

On this date in 1977, X Ray Spex released their debut single, "Oh Bondage Up Yours!". It was backed by "I Am A Cliche". Neither track appeared on their debut album, Germ Free Adolescents, but both were added as bonus tracks when the album was re-released on CD. The punk band released five singles and one album, all charting in the U.K. with the exception of this debut single, before breaking up in 1979 after lead singer Poly Styrene quit due to exhaustion from touring (and she later became a Hare Krishna). Lora Logic was an original in the band but left after this single to continue her schooling (she was 16). She went on to form the band Essential Logic later. B.P. Hurding and Jak Airport went on to form Classix Nouveaux.
